If you’re new to the fishing scene in Raleigh or are just looking for new spots and have been asking, where are good fishing spots near me? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a look at five good fishing spots in Raleigh to put on your list.

Best Fishing Spots in Raleigh

1. Falls Lake

Falls Lake is a 12,400-acre lake with plenty of areas to fish. You can cast your rod at catfish, white bass, stripers, perch, and more. Many people like to fish here because the creek channels, ledges, and humps, help to hold concentrations of fish. There are many artificial reefs and fish shelters as well as continuous stocking programs that help Falls Lake remain on the top of many fishers’ lists. North Carolina Wildlife Resources regulations apply here.

2. Shelley Lake

Shelley Lake is another popular spot for fishing in Raleigh. This body of water spans 53 acres. While it’s a little smaller than some other nearby lakes, it’s still a favorite. The brush has been cleared from the bank areas and a fishing pier has been constructed.  Fishing is allowed from the docks or the pedestrian bridge. Bank fishing is not allowed and you must have a fishing license. Live bait must also be used while you’re there.

Channel catfish, bluegill, and Largemouth bass are all popular catches at Shelley Lake. You’ll want to keep an eye on local fishing reports so you are taking advantage of the best fishing times.

3. Jordan Lake

You’ll find a 14,000-acre reservoir at Jordan Lake in the north-central part of North Carolina. There are plenty of areas to fish from a kayak, boat, or canoe. While there is a variety of fish to choose from, bass and crappie are the main catches. Fishers will also find sunfish, striped bass, white bass, and catfish. Many people like coming here because they know there is plenty of aquatic vegetation to help sustain a healthy food chain and keep the lake thriving. They also enjoy the underwater stumps, logs, and rocks that help to create the perfect environment for the fish. When you’re fishing at Jordan Lake, you need to have a state fishing license and follow the rules of the North Carolina Resources Commission.

4. Lake Crabtree County Park

As you ask about good fishing spots near me, you’ll want to check out Lake Crabtree, especially if you like smaller settings. Lake Crabtree is a small fishing lake of 520 acres. It’s conveniently located less than a mile down the road from the Bass Pro Shop on I-40 so if you forget any supplies, you can grab them easily.

Lake Crabtree has a fishing pier and platform as well as about five miles of shoreline. You’ll find bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish here.
